Alaska Ironkids Aquathlon

May 16, 2014 marks the official slate of Power of Tri: 3 great weekends; 3 great events. After the two days cycling events, as mentioned in the title, those three great events will be uncompleted without the showing the enormous performance of the kids’ version of Ironman (which is known as one of the most predictable and well-participated Multisport event), Ironkids. Last May 25 at Club Manila East I was given again the opportunity to witness the outstanding performance of Ironkids participants competes into a swim and run – Aquathlon (Distance is based on their ages).

During my frequent attendance in Alaska events, especially in Ironkids little by little I am able to tag on kids’ performance development from the awe-inspiring start of a skilled level. Seeing kids persevering for their future is a good spot why they are one of the must-watch events. As parents also such a nice to see your kids start constructing their future – taking off from water, pedaling couple distances to the next transition and running until they reach the finish line, definitely everything starts at Alaska Ironkids.

The whole venue was surrounded by dedication and support. As early as 0600 am, kids awake, this is unusual routine for most children, but for the future athletes thus far in advance for them is the great start of everything. Most of them, I already see in the previous events of Alaska except the performance after several months it accelerated. You will completely observe the major changes of their respective performance. Even you are not the real parent of these kids you can’t put off yourself to cheer, shout and excite. See, it’s undeniable that in the future this group of kids will prevail on their fields.

Same as other parents, I also specifically hope that my children in the near future will be part of any Alaska event – aside from providing information on the importance of drinking milk Alaska also addressed the good fellowship of the family thru active lifestyle and helping children to become independent. Staying under the heat of the sun is quite annoying lately, but for the kids’ participants together with their compassionate parents, riding with their families is more fun and meaningful. These kids enjoyed their riding experience in various categories based on their ages from Tricycle Ride caters between 2 and 5 years old (100meters and 500 meters), Kids Ride kids who has the ability to bike, 5km and the Junior Challenge is more challenging, designed for the older children who are able to finish as fast as they can within 30 minutes.
Covering an event like this is such a must-to-witness event aside from seeing these children building they future you will see how competitive their parents are, than their children. It also highlights the good companionship of each member of the family. And these days, as a parent, we need to keep them from excessive use of technology that brings poorly, therefore, let them discover the world of fitness and educate them the importance of having a healthy lifestyle.

Last May 03, 2014 at Alabang Country Club, the most well-known beverage company in the world and in our country as well – Coca-Cola (Philippines) has recently kicked-off its fourth Football Festival which aims to promote and deepen the importance of active and healthy living. Having a chance to sit with Guillermo Aponte, President and General Manager of Coca-Cola Philippines in the press conference was truly pleasured as he discussed their commitments in the community.

“Coca-Cola believes that physical activity is requisite to being healthy. Understanding what energy balance is—that is calories in, calories out—means knowing that the calories we take in, whether from a slice of cake or a bottle of Coca-Cola, we should also be able to expend. That is the core of our overall program on wellbeing,” Aponte said.

The commitment of Coca-Cola Philippines towards the promotion of wellbeing is hinged on a global sustainability framework, which also involves women’s economic empowerment and environmental protection.

The Football Festival has attracted 3500 players (much higher number of participants compared 2700 last year) from different part of the country that fought against each other in 11 categories for the championship. The festival covers the entire size of country club with 22 football fields which played simultaneously for two days. News Release: Coca-Cola marks fourth season of Football Festival in bid to promote physical activity, healthy living

Manila, Philippines (3 May 2014) – In its ongoing commitment to promote active, healthy living, Coca-Cola Philippines recently kicked-off the fourth season of the Coca-Cola Football Festival at the Alabang Country Club.

The league gathers approximately 230 teams or close to 3,500 players from all over the country to vie for championships in 11 different age categories. Coca-Cola Football Festival is played on 22 football fields simultaneously and follows a 7A Side Football Format wherein each team is limited to 7 players. Only one team per club or school per division is allowed to join the cup.

“We are very happy with the response that the Coca-Cola Football Festival received in the previous seasons. Last year, we had about 2,700 players joining us on these fields and now we’re at the 3,500 mark. This proves the growing interest of Filipinos in football and it is something Coca-Cola Philippines would like to invest on so that in the long run, we could enjoin more people to take on more active, healthy lifestyles through sports,” said Guillermo Aponte, President and General Manager of Coca-Cola Philippines.

In 2013, teams such as the Green Barons, Miriam College, Xavier Football Club, Roxas Wildcats Football Club, Masbate Football Club, Makati Football Club, De La Salle University, FC Sikat, De La Salle Zobel, Makati FC Elite, and Makati Football School took home the championship trophies in various categories.

“Coca-Cola believes that physical activity is requisite to being healthy. Understanding what energy balance is—that is calories in, calories out—means knowing that the calories we take in, whether from a slice of cake or a bottle of Coca-Cola, we should also be able to expend. That is the core of our overall program on wellbeing,” added Aponte.

The commitment of Coca-Cola Philippines towards the promotion of wellbeing is hinged on a global sustainability framework, which also involves women’s economic empowerment and environmental protection.

Globally, the Company supports over 280 active healthy living programs in 115 countries, helping individuals make informed choices on food consumption, proper hydration, and the benefits of engaging in different forms of physical activity. Among those done locally are the Coca-Cola Football Festival, the Red Cross Million Volunteer Run, and ongoing Coca-Cola PBA Youngstars.

“Through our different programs and initiatives, we try to contribute in providing workable solutions to the current issues of today. That is our commitment as a Company. At the same time, we also help educate and promote that regular exercise, paired with a sensible, balanced diet is a step closer to having an active, healthy lifestyle,” Aponte added.

The Coca-Cola Football Festival is a collaborative effort between Coca-Cola Philippines, Powerade, Makati Football Club, Alabang Football School, Alabang Country Club, and the NCR Football Association.

Internationally, the Coca-Cola Company also has a long-standing relationship with FIFA since 1974, and has been an official sponsor of the FIFA World Cup since 1978. Through the Company’s ‘World’s Cup Campaign’, it invites the world to celebrate football as a force for social good.
